HOUSTON: Europcar North America has named Bates Churchill as its
media relations agency of record, expanding a relationship that began in
January with the PR firm’s parent, Bates Southwest.
Europcar, Europe’s largest international car rental firm, entered the
North American market in March through a franchise branding agreement
with Mexico’s Sistema Natmex. Bates Southwest worked on ads for the
Mexican launch and targeted US travel trades.
Bates Churchill joined the effort last month, touting the company’s
entry into both Mexico and China. Europcar negotiated a similar branding
agreement with Shi Ji Tong Car Rental in late July, making it the first
international rental company in that market.
Bates Churchill’s deal with Europcar officially lasts until the end of
the year, but VP Marjorie Fowler said the firm is planning for work in
2000.
Owned by Germany’s Volkswagen and France’s ACCOR, the 50-year-old
Europcar is based in France.
