LOS ANGELES: The Los Angeles City AIDS Coordinator has hired The
MWW Group to provide media relations for its National Conference on
Women and HIV/AIDS, a dollars 100,000 account.
The conference, which ends tomorrow, focused on prevention and HIV/AIDS
health issues, with an emphasis on the effect of the disease on
women.
Over 1,000 women with HIV/ AIDS were expected to attend, the largest
such gathering to date. MWW, through PSAs and post-conference efforts,
will continue to work on the account through December.
’Raising public awareness of how HIV/AIDS is affecting women is our main
goal,’ said Frederick MacFarlane, director of PR at MWW.
While the effect of the disease on gay men and drug users has been well
documented, few realize that AIDS is the third-leading cause of death
for all women between the ages of 25 and 44, and the leading cause of
death for African-American women in that age range.
The LA City AIDS Coordinator and other sponsors of the conference are
hoping that a more informed public will encourage funding of research
that will benefit women with HIV/AIDS.
MWW has been charged with managing the media center at the conference,
producing a daily newsletter for reporters and running on-site news
conferences.
The conference will be followed by a series of PSAs developed by MWW’s
LA staff, and the agency will work on radio and TV announcements.
