There’s a right way to promote yourself, and a wrong way.
There’s a right way to promote yourself, and a wrong way.
Florida TV anchor Lester Holt, whose contract at WBBM-Channel 2 expires
at the end of the year, has hired a publicist to hype him as
’a well-loved and well-known journalist’ and ostensibly get the guy’s
contract renewed.
’I’ve been with CBS-owned stations my entire career,’ trumpets his
ostensibly self-penned press release. ’It didn’t hit me until my gold
cufflinks with the CBS eye arrived in the mail!’
Unfortunately, his press kit (which also included a tee-shirt with the
words, ’Thanks for Making Me Your Choice For News! Lester’) has its
share of problems - like misidentifying the title of the network’s
flagship news broadcast and incorrectly pegging the year of the last
Democratic National Convention. Holt also makes himself available for
’exclusive interviews’ - a strange choice, given that anyone can easily
contact him through the station’s press office.
How will the bungled PR affect Holt’s future? Stay tuned.
