WEST ORANGE, NJ: PepperCom has bested two top-10 agencies for the
dollars 500,000 CSC Consulting Group PR account.
The account had been under review for some time (PRWeek, July 5), and
CSC had narrowed an initial list of five candidates down to three
finalists - GCI Group, Fleishman-Hillard and PepperCom. Incumbent
Sterling Hager did not make the final cut.
CSC PR director Lisa Meyer had said that the company was looking for a
firm with both hi-tech and professional services expertise, and
PepperCom has a 50-50 mix of business-to-business and technology
clients. Its professional services accounts include Cambridge, MA-based
Integral and Menlo Park, CA-based Navigant.
As it has only a New York office, PepperCom will use a network of 12
affiliates to handle regional work in cities like Atlanta, Chicago,
Dallas and Washington, DC. VP Kathleen Kennedy, who leads PepperCom’s
technology group, will head up the CSC account.
PepperCom managing partner Steve Cody said the win - plus five other new
dot-com clients - should help push the firm’s PR income from dollars 2.5
million in 1998 up to dollars 4.5 million this year. ’And we’re hoping
to do dollars 7 million next year,’ he added.
Cody added that the firm is mulling an expansion to the West Coast,
which should happen within the next six months.
