VERNON HILLS, IL: CDW Computer Centers, a dollars 2 billion,
15-year-old company that only last year decided to create a PR
department, is in the market for someone to head up its fledgling
communications operation.
The executive search follows the departure of former PR manager Ann
Fahey-Widman, who left CDW to work at Corporate Technologies
Communications (CTC), a fast-growing hi-tech PR shop in Chicago.
CDW is not using a search firm to fill the post, according to a
spokesperson.
The company has, however, advertised in the Chicago Tribune.
The successful candidate will likely boast more than eight years of PR
experience, with an emphasis in internal communications. Duties include
supervision of all of the company’s internal and external
communications.
CDW’s PR department has only two staffers, which is paltry given the
company’s overall size. Previously, the company had used Edelman
offshoot PR21 for media relations assistance.
Since arriving at CDW in June 1998, Fahey-Widman has created a company
media kit and senior executive bios, as well as worked on internal
communications projects. She made the move over to CPC in order to have
the opportunity to do strategic counseling.
