NEW YORK: Investor relations specialist Abernathy MacGregor Frank
has reportedly revived talks aimed at selling all or part of the agency.
If rumors that surfaced in New York City last week are to believed,
possible suitors include a handful of global giants, including GCI and
Fleishman-Hillard.
Agency founders Jim Abernathy and James MacGregor are said to be looking
at ways to capitalize on the company’s status as one of a handful of IR
boutiques capable of handling multimillion dollar mergers and IPOs. The
firm’s corporate savvy was on full display in September when it handled
the CBS/ Viacom merger announcement (PRWeek, Sept. 13).
Sources close to AMF management denied the firm was ’in play,’ but
added, ’There have obviously been a lot of discussions.’ While Abernathy
and MacGregor hold majority interest in the firm, third partner Joele
Frank is reportedly looking to increase her stake in the company. The
sources said that if Frank is able to accomplish this, a sale would be
considerably more likely.
