LONDON: Acquisition-happy Ogilvy has closed another deal, buying
London-based healthcare shop Magellan Medical Communications.
Magellan, which boasts annual billings of dollars 1.6 million, marks the
first purchase for Ogilvy’s European health and medical practice.
The deal is part of Ogilvy’s strategy to develop a pan-European
healthcare group in order to address the increasingly global
pharmaceutical and healthcare markets. The agency considered five other
potential targets, but Magellan’s client base, including the Royal
College of Physicians of Edinburgh in the Scottish Parliament, played a
key role in prompting the deal.
The Magellan staff has moved into Ogilvy’s London offices and will be
fully integrated into the network. Magellan MD Tom Delany becomes MD of
the European health and medical practice.
