HELSINKI: Nokia investor relations VP Martin Sandelin has been promoted
to the new post of SVP, corporate marketing. In his new role, Sandelin
will oversee all of Nokia’s global corporate positioning and
sponsorships. Assistant VP of IR Ulla James has been promoted to fill
Sandelin’s previous role.
PORTLAND, OR: Rockey Bowler Public Relations, a division of the
Seattle-based integrated agency The Rockey Company, has named Brian Bell
president.
Bell, who joined RB in 1989, was formerly a VP of Ogilvy & Mather
PR.
Bell takes over from Michele Bowler, who will remain with the agency as
a senior partner.
SAN FRANCISCO: Online financial brokerage firm Schwab.com has hired
former Levi Strauss PR pro Mike Durand as director of international
communications.
Durand spent two and a half years at Levi as senior manager for
executive communications before leaving the company in October.
NEW YORK: John Melia, former spokesman for state economic development
czar Charles Gargano, has been named press secretary for Bronx Borough
president Fernando Ferrer. He replaces Clint Roswell, who has joined
IBM.
NEW YORK: InfoRocket, a ’Silicon Alley’-based online pay-for-information
service set to debut next year, has chosen Cohn & Wolfe as its agency of
record. C&W has been charged with a range of media relations and
branding tasks.
SAN FRANCISCO: Next year’s IABC salary survey, produced jointly with the
PRSA, will include contributions from 13 communication associations.
Those participating include the Council of Communication Management, the
Arthur Page Society and the Mexican Association of PR Agencies.
STAMFORD, CT: Intelligent Information Incorporated, a provider of
commerce services for users of mobile phones, pagers and palmtops, has
hired Stanton Crenshaw Communications as its agency of record. The
company, which delivers approximately 500,000 messages daily, has
charged the agency with increasing category and brand awareness.
