NEW YORK: Meredith Halpern has traded in outer space for the more
earthly theater of a soccer pitch.
Space.com’s fledgling director of communications left the web site
earlier this month to join goalnetwork. com, a soccer site providing
match results, news and features. The site launched in November.
’Soccer is where it’s at,’ Halpern said. ’It has billions of fans. Even
though this is a new market for me, it was an opportunity I couldn’t
pass up.’
Halpern rejoins her professional crony Rich Zahradnik, the former
president of Space. com, who is now president of goalnetwork.com. They
also worked together at CNNfn.
Space.com, led by former CNN financial pundit Lou Dobbs, is said to have
been plagued by numerous staff defections since its launch earlier this
year.
Goalnetwork.com was founded by Clive Toye and Craig Stoehr, who was
previously counsel to the 1994 World Cup and Major League Soccer. The
site boasts editorial offices in a range of cities around the globe,
including London, Milan and Montreal.
