NEW YORK: Miramax has lured Matthew Hiltzik away from New York’s
Democratic Party.
Hiltzik, previously the party’s press secretary and deputy executive
director, is joining the movie house today as director of corporate
PR.
The 27-year-old, who had worked on the exploratory committee for Hillary
Clinton’s upcoming Senate campaign, was hired by Miramax co-founder
Harvey Weinstein, an ardent supporter of the Democratic party.
Hiltzik replaces Andrew Stengel, who is shifting across to Miramax’s
acquisitions division. Stengel also boasts a political background,
having worked for New York governor Mario Cuomo.
’After you’ve worked with the political media, you can handle just about
anything,’ Hiltzik said, adding that Stengel’s recommendation had a lot
to do with him getting the job. He will report to president of Miramax
publicity Marcy Granata.
Hiltzik has also worked for Dan Klores Associates and run his own
consulting firm, Viewpoint Strategies.
Among the potential PR problems on his slate: positioning and spinning
the Miramax-owned Talk magazine. The title, which debuted last summer,
has lost much of its initial buzz and has suffered numerous key staff
departures.
