MEXICO CITY: The GCI Group has won the PR account for Kellogg’s
Special K cereal in Mexico.
The work, previously handled internally, will include positioning
Special K in the Mexican market. Howard Clabo, general manager of GCI’s
Mexico outpost, said the task will be ’a challenge,’ but is optimistic
that the win will lead to more Kellogg’s work south of the border.
The firm is currently speaking with Kellogg’s about adding corporate PR
work to its roster, Clabo said. GCI also handles corporate PR for
Procter & Gamble in Mexico.
Account supervisor Claudia Cano will lead the three-person Special K
team. As part of the work, GCI will conduct a search for ’Special K
women,’ who will be chosen from a year-long search of schools,
universities and conferences. The woman may be used in ad campaigns in
2001.
The GCI Mexico City office now has 16 account staffers and should
generate PR income of dollars 1.5 million next year - a ’substantial
markup’ from 1999, Clabo said. Clients include Hasbro, Campbell’s Soup,
P&G and John Deere.
