In February 2013, 3Doodler was a completely unknown brand hoping to create the world’s first 3D printing pen. It hired Dynamo PR to help it secure $30,000 from Kickstarter, the crowdsourced funding website.
Dynamo built relationships with professional artists, produced videos that showed 3Doodler doodling the most common doodles such as houses and stick men, and used the pen to create 3D versions of key journalists to get their attention. 3Doodler was also shown to Prince Harry and Prime Minister David Cameron on their visits to New York.
3Doodler hit its $30,000 target within three hours and 38 minutes of launch, $1m within two days and $2.34m in total. It now holds the record for the largest amount ever raised in the technology category and ranks among the top 15 Kickstarters of all time.
3Doodler CEO Peter Dilworth says: "This campaign has propelled us to become one of the most successful Kickstarter projects to date thanks to PR outreach alone. We feel this campaign really highlights why hiring a PR agency is one of the best decisions we have made as a business."
"Low budget, high return, fantastic results. Amazing work on a shoestring with startling returns. Most impressive"
