Defra appoints Rae Stewart as interim director of comms

The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs has appointed Rae Stewart as director of comms on an interim basis following the recently-announced departure of Kim Worts to The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors.

Stewart has been head of news and external comms at the department for more than two years.

His experience before Defra includes being press secretary to deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg and also heading up comms for the Cabinet Office on the inquiry set up by then Prime Minister Gordon Brown in 2009 to look into the Iraq conflict earlier last decade.
