Tourism and Events Queensland (TEQ) has launched an agency hunt for two three-year briefs covering both PR and marketing.

Hills Balfour, which covers the UK, Ireland and Nordic regions, and German agency Global Spot, which covers the rest of Europe, are repitching.

It is believed that the UK, Ireland and Nordic regions brief alone could be worth a mid-six-figure sum, though no figure is stated in tender documents seen by PRWeek.

One travel agency source called the region a "flagship" for tourism in the country, as it includes its third largest city and the Great Barrier Reef.

They also highlighted the high profile "Best Job in the World" campaign, which launched in 2009.

This involved offering a foreigner the opportunity to be paid to be a "caretaker" for the islands of the reef for six months, and was taken up by Tourism Australia shortly after.

The work will start in January, with the possibility of an extension of up to two years in 2017.

TEQ director, international operations Andrew Sinclair said: "Tourism and Events Queensland is a division of the Queensland Government and as such we are required to go to open market at the end of contracts to source and evaluate parties that are interested in representing Queensland’s interests. As always, we welcome innovative proposals that will help grow tourism to Queensland."

TEQ was hit last week by the sudden resignation of boss Steven Wright after nine months in the job.
