In the new role of group managing director, brand marketing, Friend’s brief is to bring together the agency’s consumer marketing offering with the specialisms consumer technology, consumer health, sport, strategic planning and digital.

Thompson, formerly Friend’s deputy, succeeds her as managing director of the consumer marketing practice, which the agency claims has registered double-digit growth for two consecutive years and has had a strong 2013.

Weber Shandwick’s UK and Europe CEO Colin Byrne said: ‘Rachel is an inspirational leader who has been a real change agent in consumer and across our London office. She led the team that drove such great work for EDF Energy and others at the 2012 Games - culminating in our first consumer Cannes Lion win this past month, as well as developing a great digital offer, helping bring in great brands to our portfolio, driving double-digit growth and building a motivated, creative and collaborative team.

‘Emma is one of the hardest-working, passionate and driven people I have had the pleasure of working with. She has been Rachel's partner in the transformation of the consumer practice, the work and the service provided to both new as well as established clients.’
