Nestle's Purina PetCare business has commenced a process to find a corporate agency for the overall Purina brand. Bill Etling, director of marketing PR for CheckMark Communications, Nestle Purina's in-house creative comms and design agency, confirmed that meetings with agencies had begun.

Hotwire has promoted Christophe Goudy, former CEO of Continental Europe and MD of France, to senior vice-president of client development in San Francisco. MD of Germany Markus Hermsen will take over Goudy's European responsibilities as MD in addition to his existing role, while associate director Virginie Puchaux becomes MD of France.

Target, the US fashion retailer, has selected Miami-based Boden PR as its multicultural PR agency following a competitive review. Boden will help the retailer with all its multicultural PR initiatives, as well as collaborating with LatinWorks, the firm's Hispanic marketing agency. Target declined to give further details about the review or its work with Boden.

Nebraska's Tourism Commission has hired marcoms agency Swanson Russell to manage tourism PR for the US state.

VMware, the software maker, has selected Hill+Knowlton Strategies as its PR agency in the US after a review.

The US government's Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is conducting a search for PR firms to oversee two ongoing HIV/Aids initiatives.

Finn Partners has acquired Washington DC and New York-based public affairs and education PR company Widmeyer Communications.

Hill+Knowlton Strategies has hired former CBS News correspondent Drew Levinson as senior vice-president in its US media relations practice.

The week in healthcare

PruHealth and PruProtect have struck a partnership with rugby union star Jonny Wilkinson as a 'vitality ambassador', promoting the incentive-led wellness programme used by five million people around the world. Jessica Ennis and Sebastian Coe are also vitality ambassadors.

Say Communications has appointed Victoria Bramham as an associate director to help lead its growing healthcare practice. She reports to MD Stefi Rucci. Bramham has more than 15 years' experience working within healthcare comms. She joins from Chandler Chicco, where she was a senior client lead for seven years. Previously, she worked within the healthcare divisions of Weber Shandwick, Sante Communications, Munro & Forster, Nexus and Fusion.

The Government is consulting on refreshing the mandate to NHS England for 2014 to 2015. It defines the Government's ambitions for the NHS, as well as the funding available to achieve the kind of care people need and expect. The consultation has come about as a result of developments and new evidence since the publication of the first mandate in 2012.

The public sector week

West Midlands Council's comms teams took part in a study that has revealed a strong uptake of social media across the region. The research, carried out by public sector comms-focused website comms2point0, showed all 31 local authorities in the region had at least one Twitter and Facebook account. The research findings will be published in full at a launch event on 26 July.

The Government Communication Network is hosting a conference - Towards Exceptional Government Communications - for senior government communicators next week. It will take place on Monday at the Westminster Conference Centre.

LGComms held a committee meeting on Wednesday at Westminster City Hall. It included a campaigns expert from the Department for Communities and Local Government giving a talk on its Fire Kills programme.

Walbrook PR has been hired as financial PR adviser to Lifeline Scientific, the Chicago-based organ, tissue and cell transplantation firm. Lifeline Scientific is an AIM listed supplier of systems to improve the quality and availability of organs, tissues and cells for transplants and research.

FWD PR has expanded its international network by entering into an affiliation with TorranceCo, an independent corporate, financial and marketing comms firm in New York.

The British Private Equity and Venture Capital Association has promoted Tom Allchorne to director of comms, reporting to director-general Tim Hames.

Deloitte has appointed James Igoe as head of media relations. Igoe has been with the firm for more than six years and took over as interim head of media relations from Jamie Harley earlier this year. It has also appointed Will Black from insolvency trade body R3 as PR manager for its corporate finance practice.

The week in lobbying

Elizabeth France has stepped down after three years as chairwoman of the UK Public Affairs Council. The terms of independent directors Sir Roger Sands and George Kidd have been extended to 31 December 2013 and 30 June 2014 respectively. Kidd will act as chairman while the body considers a new governance structure. Keith Johnston and Robbie McDuff have stepped down as directors to make way for the CIPR's Simon McVicker and the APPC's Iain Anderson.

The Law Society, which represents 160,000 solicitors in England and Wales, has hired Helen Roberts as an adviser in its government and parliamentary affairs team. She was previously an account executive specialising in the energy sector at Edelman.

MHP has named director Nick Laitner as acting head of public affairs while managing director of public affairs Fiona Holrodye is on maternity leave.

Alzheimer's Society has appointed Alison Cook as director of external affairs. She was previously a director at MHP Health Mandate. Head of policy and public affairs George McNamara and acting head of comms Hannah Clack will report to Cook. She replaces Andrew Chidgey, who left the organisation in May for a chief executive role at an HIV charity in Hong Kong.
