DIARY: Txt msg compo result: 87 replies, but jury out on PR vs comms choice

Our text messaging competition, in conjunction with Aerodeon

(PRWeek, 18 January), has a result - several, in fact.

We asked you to participate in PRWeek's first-ever poll conducted by

mobile phones by text messaging your response to the question: 'Do you

prefer to be seen as working in "communications" or "PR"?'

In doing so, we would not only be able to gauge opinion on the

industry's nomenclature preference, but also be able to tell how many

PROs are savvy enough to use text messaging.

Sixty per cent of respondents preferred to be described as working in

'communications', against 40 per cent who said 'PR'. There were no

abstentions.

But there appears to be a more pronounced divide between those who know

how to send text messages and those who don't. Even with the incentive

of a bottle of champagne, from a potential audience of about 18,000

readers, only 87 people responded - a measly 0.4 per cent.

With the hope we will send you scurrying back to your mobile phone

instruction manuals, we will be contacting the winner soon to award the

champers.
