PUBLIC SECT0R: London fire body hires Dickens as first comms head

The London Fire and Emergency Planning Authority has hired its

first head of communications.

Liz Dickens takes up the post next month, joining from Medway Council,

where she is communications manager.

Her appointment comes following a reorganisation of the authority's

structure last year. This included the merger of the comms and media and

PR teams into a 50-strong group.

Dickens reports to director of corporate service Rita Dexter and

oversees media relations, events, internal comms, and the running of the

London Fire Brigade Museum. One of her main tasks is to increase

coverage for fire safety messages.

Medway, which covers the north Kent towns of Rochester, Gillingham and

Chatham, is now looking to replace her.

At Medway she heads an eight-strong team, including Darren Blindloss the

principle media officer and marketing and PR manager Martin Reid.

She reports to Stephanie Goad, assistant director of communications and

enterprise.
