Andrew Lappin - the former special adviser to ex-Northern Ireland
secretary Mo Mowlam - is to join public affairs shop GPC
Lappin is set to take up the post of senior policy adviser in April,
specialising in policy counselling and media relations.
The former government adviser worked for Mowlam during her time as
Secretary of State for Northern Ireland and Minister for the Cabinet
Office, handling media relations, speech-writing and strategy.
He previously worked in a similar role for David Clark MP, the former
minister for public service.
GPC London managing director Kevin Bell, to whom Lappin will report,
said: 'There are not many people who specialise in both policy counsel
and media handling skills, which is increasingly important.
'Andrew will work across the board with clients, telling them how the
Government thinks and works,' Bell added.
Lappin is currently writing on a freelance basis for the New Statesman
on Whitehall and Westminster issues, alongside writing a novel based on
his experiences as a government special adviser.
'I was keen to get a bit of commercial experience,' said Lappin.
