Campaign to boost investment in gold

The World Gold Council is driving a global PR campaign to boost

investment in gold.

The body, which represents gold producers, has drafted in Capital

Communications, the London-based financial PR arm of Manning Selvage &

Lee, to develop and implement the comms offensive.

The WGC has briefed Capital to market the benefits of institutional

investment in gold and to crank up communication with potential

investors and advisers.

Capital, which won the business after a competitive pitch, said it will

target individuals and institutional investors. The campaign will

include financial PR, IR and marketing.

Capital director Richard Campbell leads the account, reporting to WGC

institutional investment MD Rob Weinberg. Capital will use the MS&L

network for implementation, with support from New York-based MS&L senior

V-P Rich Simonelli.

Edelman PR Worldwide continues to handle the WGC's brand PR, having

secured a five-year global contract 12 months ago (PRWeek, 16 February

2001).
