The maker of Cranium, the US's top-selling boardgame, is seeing
pitches from at least three UK agencies as it seeks to secure consumer
PR support for the product.
Meetings have taken place between agencies and senior Cranium staff last
week with a view to boosting coverage of the product.
Consumer PR for Cranium is currently handled by Edelman PR Worldwide in
all of its markets, including the US, Canada and Germany.
A spokesperson for Edelman confirmed meetings with consumer agencies had
taken place, describing the brief in question as 'ongoing consumer
The game has become the fastest-selling independent boardgame in US
history with more than 800,000 units sold in that country alone. It was
created by former Microsoft executives Richard Tait and Whit Alexander
Cranium draws on activities such as sketching, sculpting, humming and
spelling words backwards.
A UK edition of the product was launched in October 2000, while
subsequent extensions of the brand include Cranium Cadoo for children
and Cranium Cosmo for use in offices.
It is not yet clear whether the account being pitched will cover UK work
on these products.
