Agencies in pitch to handle Cranium UK consumer job

The maker of Cranium, the US's top-selling boardgame, is seeing

pitches from at least three UK agencies as it seeks to secure consumer

PR support for the product.

Meetings have taken place between agencies and senior Cranium staff last

week with a view to boosting coverage of the product.

Consumer PR for Cranium is currently handled by Edelman PR Worldwide in

all of its markets, including the US, Canada and Germany.

A spokesperson for Edelman confirmed meetings with consumer agencies had

taken place, describing the brief in question as 'ongoing consumer

work'.

The game has become the fastest-selling independent boardgame in US

history with more than 800,000 units sold in that country alone. It was

created by former Microsoft executives Richard Tait and Whit Alexander

in 1998.

Cranium draws on activities such as sketching, sculpting, humming and

spelling words backwards.

A UK edition of the product was launched in October 2000, while

subsequent extensions of the brand include Cranium Cadoo for children

and Cranium Cosmo for use in offices.

It is not yet clear whether the account being pitched will cover UK work

on these products.
