Panasonic stages consumer pitch

Electronics giant Panasonic is pitching consumer PR work for the

launch of an integrated digital TV system.



PR manager Mahafrid Jamooji said the firm was looking to take on

external support for the launch to complement its in-house team.



She refused to disclose how many agencies had been approached to pitch,

or details of the brief, but a decision on the chosen agency is expected

within weeks.



Of the decision to turn to external help for this launch, Jamooji said:

'All our PR is normally handled in-house. From time to time we outsource

some elements of projects. It is not as if we are handing over a

retained brief to one agency - we are just looking for someone to assist

us on an ad hoc basis.'



Jamooji said Panasonic was 'looking for someone to provide information

to the public about the product around the time of its launch.'



Panasonic plans two further high-profile launches this year, with the

introduction of a combined digital video camera, MP3 player and voice

recorder, as well as a combined MP3 and portable video player. No

details on the PR handling for either product are yet available.



Last month Panasonic vowed to target women with its marketing efforts,

in recognition of the burgeoning unisex market for electrical goods.
