Edexcel media chief Stevie Pattison-Dick must be a clairvoyant in
her spare time.
Last week the examining board was slaughtered by the media after a
blunder in its AS-Level maths exam. The small PR team was busy fielding
calls from reporters, and retained agency LLM's Neil Lawson was drafted
What better time for Pattison-Dick to spend the week on holiday in
California: 'I was taking advantage of the cheap BA flights,' she
She praised the 'hard work' of those that remained - Lawson and head of
external relations Beryl Jeffreys and director of human resources and
external affairs Tim Williams. Pattison-Dick conceded that 'some
journalists may not have had their calls returned.'
Some newspapers told tales of tearful students without a single quote
from Edexcel. One even said 'Edexcel could not be contacted yesterday'
(The Guardian, 21 January).
