The organisers of National Bike Week have hired independent PR
consultant Nick Harvey to promote 1,500 cycling events in June this
Harvey, who has handled the work for the previous three years, will
co-ordinate a media relations and direct marketing campaign to issue the
'Come Cycling' call to the UK's 20 million bike owners.
'We are putting out quite a serious message this year to encourage
people who own bikes for leisure to use them for utility journeys to the
shops, school and gym as well. We want to reach out to existing cycle
users saying you should use your bike more,' Harvey said.
The week of events is being organised by the Bike Week Liaison Group
which comprises 11 different cycling organisations and is backed by
Government. It is now in its 30th year.
The event is planned for the second half of June.
