KPMG hands UK PR business over to Bell Pottinger

Professional services giant KPMG has handed its UK PR business to

Bell Pottinger (BP), leaving its link with corporate and financial

agency Weber Shandwick Square Mile in doubt.

BP is tasked with providing strategic communications support for the UK

and Europe to KPMG's in-house team, led by head of corporate comms Gavin

Houlgate.

The appointment fits into Houlgate's model of an enhanced in-house team

with just one agency.

However Houlgate is reticent as to how WSSM fits into this new

structure: 'The model is for one agency. If there are other agencies

around you will have to evaluate accordingly.'

The WSSM account, led by associate director Roddy Watt, was previously

held by Golin Harris Ludgate, until its financial division was merged

last year with that of Weber Shandwick.

BP's team is headed by lead consultant David Kenning and includes former

KPMG tax partner Anthony Fisher, Paul Bell, David McDonough, Mike

Herbert and Tim Rycroft, all of whom are senior consultants.

The appointment of BP does not affect the relationship between KPMG's

public affairs team and its retained agency LLM Communications.
