Neal, a former senior political adviser to chief treasury secretary Liam Byrne, is leaving the agency in June to head straight to the Tony Blair Faith Foundation.

The head of communications role replaces the previous position of senior communications manager, which was held by Susie McShane until she left the foundation after four years in February to move abroad.

The Tony Blair Faith Foundation is a charity and one arm of Blair’s varied post-governmental portfolio. Its stated mission is to ensure leaders around the world understand the role of religion, to promote literacy among young people and to help religious communities in more than 140 countries work together to save lives.

Neal joined MHP's public affairs team in January 2012 from his role with Byrne. Earlier in his career he worked in a number of roles at the Labour Party such as political officer, press officer and, during the 2010 general election, senior copywriter.

At the foundation he will report to director of external affairs Parna Taylor. The key responsibilities of his role include working with other comms staff, including members of the Office of Tony Blair team, to design and execute a proactive comms and brand strategy for the foundation.

The foundation’s projects include the Faith & Globalisation Initiative, a worldwide network of leading research universities that helps analyse the impact of religion in a globalised world.

Charlotte Keenan, chief executive of the Tony Blair Faith Foundation, said: ‘William brings a breadth of experience to the position, and I and the rest of the organisation are very pleased to welcome him on board.

‘This is a very exciting time for the foundation, as we consolidate and scale up our global activity, and we look forward to having William as part of the team as we move ahead.’
