MEDIA: Choi first ITV News consumer affairs ed

ITV News has appointed Chris Choi as its first consumer affairs

editor.

His promotion from correspondent is part of a deliberate move to boost

consumer affairs coverage on ITV.

In addition to personal finance, he will cover areas such as transport,

utilities and health, where the switch from public to private investment

has created confusion for consumers, he said.

Choi will work with a full-time producer, Diane Ridley. He emphasised

that PROs, particularly from in-house departments, have a key role to

play: 'It is very important we have good relations with press teams from

organisations all over the country. A lot of stuff that would be done as

business stories by some newsrooms, we can turn round and do from the

consumer perspective.'

Meanwhile, Shiulie Ghosh has been promoted to home affairs editor. At

ITN for four years, Ghosh said she hoped PROs would continue to help by

locating people with first-hand experience of the legislative and social

issues on which she reports.

ITV News is produced by ITN but is no longer referred to as ITN News.
