DIARY: Government spinners mocked by mayor Ken

London mayor Ken Livingstone used his soiree with members of the

IPR Greater London Group this week to take a swipe at the PR skills of

Blairite advisers in government.

'If they were as good as everyone says they are at PR, I wouldn't be

here,' chirped Ken, when asked how highly he rated the Government's PR

experts. The mayor, of course, won office in 2000 against a comically

excessive Millbank PR effort on behalf of official candidate Frank

'Spin doctors talk endlessly about how good they are at spinning,' he

continued, 'but those who become famous are like magicians who tell you

how the trick works - useless'.
