DIARY: McConnell complicates Beattie's Euro 2008 job

Trouble is afoot for the Beattie Media team aiming to bring the

2008 European football championships to Scotland. First Minister Jack

McConnell is seemingly not as easily convinced of the bid's merits as

his predecessor Henry McLeish.

Scottish Nationalist party spokesperson Irene McGugan told The Scotsman

this week: 'He (McConnell) seems to be looking for an excuse to scupper

the Euro 2008 bid.'

McConnell's apparent lack of support for the bid is ironic given his

former spell as a lobbyist for Beattie.
