Elliott set to head hatch PA division

The hatch-group has drafted in Simon Elliott to head its newly

created public affairs division.

Elliott, currently a director of the Flagship Group, joins at the start

of next month with a mandate to start a PA business from scratch.

He will be a director of the organisation and be based at offices in

central London set to open next month.

hatch managing director Brian Maclaurin said: 'We needed someone who was

connected with CEOs, and has an understanding of what PA can achieve.

Simon was also enthusiastic about being part of a start-up.'

Elliott said that after joining at the beginning of next month, he would

be recruiting a 'big name' from within the industry to be his deputy

before targeting blue-chip clients.

He said: 'The plan is to grow the business very quickly by putting PA in

a modern context and taking advantage of the cross fertilisation within

hatch.'

While at Flagship Group, Elliott led the team that won last year's

PRWeek award for Best Corporate Branding with its work on the fashion

retailer Pringle Scotland.

Prior to Flagship, Elliott worked at The Maitland Consultancy and the

then Shandwick Consultants. He has also been an adviser to former

Conservative transport minister Roger Freeman and as a parliamentary

candidate.

The move continues hatch's stated efforts to become a top ten UK PR firm

by 2005.

Company founder Michael Murphy secured £20m of venture capital

backing to acquire the then Maclaurin last summer (PRWeek, 1 June

2001)

Maclaurin said financial PR was the next area the company would invest

in.
