Former Barbican PA director moves to Design Council

The Design Council has appointed former Barbican Centre director of

public affairs Ruth Hasnip as director of communications.

She replaces Martin Brown, who departed to become head of design

business development at Fishburn Hedges last year (PRWeek, 17 August

2001).

Hasnip joins after five years working for the London venue, and will

oversee the Design Council's marketing and IT divisions in addition to

communications.

Hasnip has no plans to change the Design Council's existing practice of

conducting PR and PA work in-house, with occasional projects handed out

to agencies depending on the need for specialised expertise.

'My biggest priority is to ensure that internal and external comms are

aligned and ensure that communications is not just seen as the delivery

division, but on the agenda for strategies from the start,' she

said.

She reports to CEO Andrew Summers at the body, which was set up in 1944

to promote quality practice.
