Halifax-Bank of Scotland, the UK's fifth-largest bank, has hired
APCO to handle its public affairs across Europe.
The recently merged bank held a five-way pitch at the end of last year
to handle the newly created brief.
The pitch-list included both Halifax's incumbent agency Westminster
Strategy and Bank of Scotland incumbent GPC. Other agencies involved in
the pitch included PPS Group and Consolidated Communications.
The APCO team is headed by director Simon Crine, who reports to HBOS
head of corporate affairs Alec Pagett, who is based in Edinburgh.
Pagett said: 'With the merger, we found ourselves with two very good
agencies assisting in this field and decided it was better to have
APCO will represent HBOS across Europe. This is the first high street
banking win for APCO, whose other financial sector clients include
HBOS's in-house corporate affairs team includes government affairs
managers Alistair Ross and Jason Evans.
Halifax and Back of Scotland merged in September last year to create the
new company, valued at £28bn at the time.
