APCO team lands Halifax-Bank of Scotland PA job

Halifax-Bank of Scotland, the UK's fifth-largest bank, has hired

APCO to handle its public affairs across Europe.

The recently merged bank held a five-way pitch at the end of last year

to handle the newly created brief.

The pitch-list included both Halifax's incumbent agency Westminster

Strategy and Bank of Scotland incumbent GPC. Other agencies involved in

the pitch included PPS Group and Consolidated Communications.

The APCO team is headed by director Simon Crine, who reports to HBOS

head of corporate affairs Alec Pagett, who is based in Edinburgh.

Pagett said: 'With the merger, we found ourselves with two very good

agencies assisting in this field and decided it was better to have

one.'

APCO will represent HBOS across Europe. This is the first high street

banking win for APCO, whose other financial sector clients include

Morgan Stanley.

HBOS's in-house corporate affairs team includes government affairs

managers Alistair Ross and Jason Evans.

Halifax and Back of Scotland merged in September last year to create the

new company, valued at £28bn at the time.
