Ward heads Weber Shandwick consumer

Weber Shandwick has appointed Sally Ward as managing director of

its UK consumer practice.

She joins from Countrywide Porter Novelli, where she was development

director for the UK.

WS director of European strategy and former corporate division managing

director Chris Genasi has been head of the consumer practice since last

year, and will now focus on his principal European role.

Ward will report into the firm's joint UK chief executives, David Brain

and Colin Byrne, working closely with Cathy Calhoun and Gail Heimann,

co-presidents of WS's consumer marketing group.

The 35 staff in WS's consumer practice will report to Ward, who is also

to run two of the company's specialist offerings: Weber Shandwick

Entertainment Marketing, and youth marketing division SLAM, formerly a

part of merged fellow Interpublic agency BSMG Worldwide.

Ward said she would be looking at cross-over opportunities with other

Interpublic firms such as ad agency McCann-Erickson: 'There are a lot of

opportunities to get referrals from other marketing services within the

group as clients increasingly want more integrated campaigns,' she

said.

According to Brain, the company will look to expand its UK consumer

offering to match the role the sector plays in the business in the US.
