DIARY: PROs miss out in battle to be Media Boss of Year

With seven PR practitioners on a shortlist of ten, one could have

been forgiven for thinking the communications industry was a cert to win

the Pathfinders Media Boss of the Year award.

Not so. All seven left the Groucho Club bash empty- handed as Ogilvy &

Mather worldwide client services director Neil Hamann waltzed off with

the certificate.

The only crumb of comfort for the PR folk in attendance was the award of

the runner-up prize to Shire Hall Communications MD Sarah Matthew.

The judges, who included Camelot CEO Dianne Thompson, BAFTA chief Amanda

Berry and Pathfinders boss Amanda Fone, reached their conclusion based

on Hamann's ability to 'motivate and empower his staff', as well as

further nauseating plaudits.

The dejected PROs should remember that these days the beleaguered ad

industry needs all the help it can get.
