Hanover director Laura Chisholm will lead the retained account, which is believed to be worth £100,000 annually, reporting to Charlotte Cool, head of public affairs at JLP.
It is not clear whether JLP’s decision was related to the departure of Fishburn Hedges’ head of public affairs last November after two years.
The company said in a statement: ‘Fishburn Hedges’ professionalism and support cannot be faulted. Due to changing priorities within the Partnership, we have appointed Hanover to advise on public affairs and corporate positioning.’
JLP’s priorities in public affairs include promoting the benefits of employee ownership.
Chisholm said: ‘John Lewis is an exciting retailer and we are looking forward to working with them on their innovative public affairs programme.’
According to its latest financial results, JLP reported an 8.6% rise in revenues for the half-year to 28 July 2012 to £3.9bn.
