Whether George Orwell would approve is sadly impossible to know,
but EuroPR Group has been appointed to use all the guile of modern media
manipulation to promote the Orwell Prize, the annual gong for political
writing.
The campaign will be aimed at raising the profile of the award beyond
those involved in political writing. The Orwell Memorial Committee,
which has appointed the agency, wants to increase the range of entries
and also the interest in the prize-giving ceremony.
Carolyn Owen, account manager at the agency, said: 'The prize is well
respected within politcal circles, but has no profile outside of that
like the Booker Prize, for example.'
'It will be a straight-forward media relations campaign in the first
stage. We will be talking about past winners, the selection process, the
judges and doing some work around the prize-giving itself,' she
added.
The account will be run by the agency's MD Richard Price, and reports to
Crick.
