EDITORIAL: Take heart from the training sector

If all firms in the PR training sector are as upbeat as CSE sounded

this week, all in the industry can take heart. There is clear evidence

of a more mature attitude to staff development than has been exhibited

by agency managements in previous recessions.

An annual industry average of roughly £1,000 per staff member on

training and development - cash rich or committed firms are known to

spend twice as much - should be the least staff can expect from their

employers. This is especially so if, as ever in recessionary times, they

are asked to work harder, for more hours, forgoing pay rises and perks

just to get through the mire.
