What is it good for?

Just to the west of London lies one of Britain's best country-house hotels. The Barn restaurant is in the grounds of the Mansion House and can be accessed separately. It is an impressive but relaxed venue for lunch or dinner with an outside terrace, not far from the M25.

Signature dish

Spatchcock baby chicken, crushed pumpkin, warm shallot and hazelnut vinaigrette or beer-battered fish, chips and crushed peas. The steaks are good, too.

Who's the boss?

Coworth Park is part of the Dorchester Collection, which includes the Dorchester on Park Lane, the Beverly Hills Hotel and Le Meurice in Paris.

Tips please

The triple-cooked chips are unbelievably good. But generally, get there early and have a walk around the hotel's stunning grounds. The spa is an award winner.

What's the damage?

Three courses and a coffee costs £30, not including VAT.
