Liberal Democrat leader Charles Kennedy told communicators at this
week's IPR Conference that PR would be instrumental in raising the
profile of politics in the UK.
Kennedy announced that he believed communications would help combat
increasing voter apathy at the Winning the Battle for Reputation
conference, held at London's Millennium Conference Centre on Monday.
'The battle for reputation should take us away from the well-worn ground
of politics, and help us find a way of connecting politicians and
voters, through combining image, message and reality,' he said.
Kennedy added that PR would play a central role in the Lib Dems'
pro-euro campaign, should a referendum be called: 'I will be at the
front of the "Yes" campaign and how we sell that campaign will be a
challenge.
But that is one time when all we have learnt - and can still learn -
from PR professionals will play an important part.'
