DIARY: PR firm chooses to advertise sector's benefits

An unusual PR campaign to report this week: Lexis Public Relations has launched an ad campaign that included a full-page in The Independent's media section.

The campaign is aimed at 'stimulating people to think about PR and the need to keep communicating' and continues on a weekly basis throughout the month in The Spectator magazine.

Less altruistically, the agency concedes the campaign will 'reach a lot more people who are influential in choosing PR and marketing agencies'.

Lexis hired ad agency Crammond Dickens and Lerner to create the campaign, which is based on work the agency has undertaken for clients including Bisto, Powergen and former client United Biscuits (PRWeek, 2 November).

We can only speculate as to the cost of the campaign, but it does beg the question as to whether Lexis believes it will get better value and coverage from an advertising rather than a PR campaign.
