High IQ society Mensa has appointed its first full-time PR
head.
Caroline Garbett joins as communications manager following a stint as
marketing co-ordinator at the City of Wolverhampton College.
She attributes the body's PR boost to increased media interest in Mensa
members. Garbett is herself a member, fulfilling the group's official
requirement of an IQ in the UK's top two per cent.
'I joined Mensa nine years ago but that was not a consideration in
getting the job,' she said.
Prior to Garbett's appointment, the body deputed one person from its
nine-strong elected board to handle media relations part-time. Most
recently, this was Sylvia Herbert, an IPR member installed last week as
PRO for Severn Waste Services. Garbett's arrival has relieved Herbert of
her Mensa PR duties.
Garbett, who started her career as a features sub-editor on the
Shropshire Star, assumes responsibility for all media relations and PR
work.
