Communicators and PR industry leaders are being called upon to join
forces for a campaign to help protect the industry from the economic
downturn.
Mike Klein, an ex-political adviser in the US and acting head of
internal communications at ntl ConsumerCo, is putting out a plea to the
industry to get behind a global media and PR initiative called the
Campaign for Leadership.
The campaign's stated objective is to 'correct the downturn in the
communication and consultancy industries by 31 March 2002'.
Klein hopes to enrol CEOs, academics, commentators and other industry
leaders to join the communications push. He said the campaign was aimed
at helping the entire comms field: 'We need to remember that our
industry exists to create favourable markets and operating conditions
for clients - it's time for us to take our own medicine.
'The campaign is designed to leverage and co-ordinate support across our
industry and identify like-minded voices in politics, business and
academia who will be willing to discuss how companies could win by
acting now,' he added.
