The Week in Lobbying

Labour MP Fabian Hamilton has called for an inquiry into lobbyists connected to parliamentary groups, following a story in The Sunday Times. The paper reported that public affairs agency Ranelagh International sent letters on Ranelagh stationery, claiming Hamilton, chairman for the education all-party parliamentary group, was 'keen to increase the group's links with outside expertise'. Hamilton reportedly had 'no idea' the firm, chaired by former Conservative MP Jonathan Sayeed, was asking potential clients to become involved. Ranelagh said it had been asked by group members, including its chairman, to contact a list of organisations.

The CIPR public affairs group is holding its annual lunch today (14 December) in The English Pig, Westminster, to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the government affairs group, the precursor to the current group. Funds will also be raised for Parkinson's UK. The PRCA's public affairs group held Christmas drinks on Monday at The Clarence.
