The Scotsman newspaper has followed a key rival into an electronic
distribution deal with distributor NewsStand.
Business a.m., the Scottish business and finance daily, struck a deal
with NewsStand in the summer (PRWeek, 29 June). The Scotsman is now also
available to subscribers worldwide, who can read the paper online in the
same layout as the print version.
The software, which activates all links and URLs in the paper, is
downloaded free by the user and NewsStand takes a commission on each
E-subscriptions are pitched between retail price and the cost of
receiving a mailed version of the print publication.
NewsStand European representative Warwick Brindle said the company is
testing 50 other titles worldwide. It already has contracts with the
International Express in London, the Globe & Mail of Toronto, The
Australian and the New York Times.
The Audit Bureau of Circulation has agreed to show NewsStand's e-sales
on a different line of its audit reports.
