PR Newswire faces fresh competition this week from a start-up
distribution network led by one of its own founders.
na europe opened this week under chairman David Davis, one of the
founders of PRN predecessor Universal News Services in the 1960s.
The company claims to offer a Europe-wide news release service. A
subsidiary of News Aktuell, it is owned by German news agency DPA.
na europe has linked with the UK's Press Association and more than 25
other news agencies worldwide.
Davis claimed na europe differed from existing firms in the sector in
that it will focus 'on Europe as a whole,' rather than the UK first and
foremost.
Davis joined Edelman in 1968, co-founding its London base and becoming
vice-chairman in 1992. He left that year to join service giant
Medialink, where he stayed for seven years.
In addition to press releases, na europe will also distribute
photographs and graphics, as well as offering PR consultancy services.
The company is based at PA's London offices.
