The Public Sector Week

The Local Government Association has created a logo for public sector bodies to use as a way of telling the public they are social media-friendly. The association launched the 'tick' symbol following on from its #ourday tweeting session, as reported by PRWeek last week.

The London Fire Brigade is to use image recognition app Blippar to help promote the world's largest firefighter event. The team will use the augmented reality World Rescue Challenge in what it claims is a first for a public body. The public will be able to use the Blippar app to scan ads for the event to reveal moving images and sound. World Rescue Challenge is open to the public and runs at ExCeL London from 18-20 October.

The National Children's Bureau has appointed Enver Solomon as director of evidence and impact. He will lead the charity's research, policy and information activities, as well as comms and marketing functions. Solomon was director of policy and public affairs at The Children's Society and before that was assistant director of policy and research at Barnardo's.

Brighton & Hove City Council head of comms John Shewell has written about the role of social media in predicting the future for this week's online public sector column. To read it, go to prweek.com/uk and click on opinion.
