GCI London has split its main cash-generating PR unit in two in a
bid to build a structure based on niche specialities.
The demerger of the lucrative corporate and marketing communications
divisions coincides with the promotion of Sue Ryan to London CEO.
The current CEO, Adrian Wheeler, will take on a broader role as chairman
of GCI Europe, a role vacated by the return of Ralf Hering to run the
Ryan joined GCI five years ago after three years at Hill & Knowlton and
six at Shandwick. Her promotion to CEO is part of a series of changes to
the London operation.
As a result of the demerger, Jane Howard has become MD of the marcomms
side, while a recruitment process is underway for a corporate MD.
The agency expects to announce a new MD of healthcare within days. This
person, together with Howard and the corporate hire, will report to
As CEO of the autonomous GCI Financial, Rupert Ashe continues to report
directly to Wheeler.
Ryan said: 'Research shows clients want in-depth knowledge. The business
unit structure we launch today is the best way we have to deliver that.'
