DIARY: Themed bars hope to re-live brighter side of 1970s

It was a time of striking miners, the birth of Thatcherism and the

Winter of Discontent. Now those hungry for a 1970s revival can live the

era all over again thanks to a line of themed bars set to launch by

brewer Six Continents Retail.

Harrison Cowley was this week named as the PR agency responsible for

helping the chain capture the public's attention, as it pursues plans to

expand its number of UK outlets.

According to account director Sarah Hughes, the agency has adopted 'a

wow-fab-groovy language protocol', and a 'glitter guarantee' (a small

'g' is presumed) so that the ethos of the bars is replicated in all

communications on their behalf.

The bars apparently boast a funky decor and party atmosphere, so one

would assume they replicate disco culture rather than the dawn of the

punk era.

Hughes, who heads the account, cites TV character Huggy Bear as her

highlight of the decade.

How she could have watched the small screen icon when the power was off

is anyone's guess.
