Media: News sites' Olympic coverage most viewed

Nearly three in ten adults online followed the Olympics on newspaper websites, surpassing Twitter and Facebook, according to YouGov.

The research commissioned by newspaper marketing body Newsworks showed 29 per cent of UK adults used newspaper websites for Olympic-related news. Twenty-five per cent used Facebook and 15 per cent visited Twitter.

The online study, which took place the weekend after the Olympics, claims printed and digital national newspaper content was consumed by 78 per cent of all adults, equating to 32.8 million people.

Newsworks chief executive Rufus Olins said: 'More readers turn to newsbrands during big national events - not just for news itself, but to read trusted sources of analysis and opinion, and enjoy the wonderful images that define these occasions.'
