Public Sector: Web portals defended

The Government has def-ended itself against criticism of the online portals set up for its new comms framework.

The set-up was criticised after the final deadline for the Agile Route to Market, which offers agencies smaller government briefs, was put back for the second time.

In a Cabinet Office email to agencies, the extension was attributed to 'difficulties' faced by suppliers in accessing briefs.

One well-placed agency source said they had to contact government staff directly over briefs because of the problems, adding: 'The system is not user-friendly and keeps breaking.'

A Cabinet Office spokeswoman said difficulties had arisen because of 'unusually high' interest in a number of briefs, adding: 'We are committed to making the process as easy as possible, and are working closely with our software provider to resolve these issues.'
